9/11/2023 0 Comments Mazda rx8 coolant reservoir tankIn the NC, the reservoir is part of the pressurized system and has a pressure cap on it. The reservoir itself is not under pressure, it's just a container to hold the overflow. When the engine stops and the coolant temperature/pressure goes down, coolant flows from the reservoir back into the radiator to fill it back up. When too much pressure builds up in the cooling system, the valve in the cap opens and some coolant/steam flows into the reservoir, relieving the pressure. If you look at most other cars, the pressure cap is on the radiator itself. ^ Jim, et al, how are the NC coolant reservoir tanks different, that they create this type of pressure to cause explosion? thx in advance. Thanks in advance for the help!Īdditionally, I have a 2006 GT 6 speed manual with 60,000 miles and a recent thermostat replacement and oil change. I'm planning on replacing the tank and coolant but I'm wondering what else I should be checking out. I have seen other threads with this issue taking place but I haven't been able to answer two questions.Ģ) Should I be concerned about additional damage and where? After some investigation I discovered that the neck around the coolant tank cap had a split running just under the lip edge. The car was overheating so I shut it off and pulled into a parking lot, popped the good and found coolant sprayed on the battery cover, engine cover, and CAI. Then I saw the temperature gauge was all the way on hot. I'm still unsure what the noise was but later on in the evening I started smelling coolant, the check engine light came on, and the traction control light (the one when you lose traction) came on. I only heard it twice and decided I would do some research while at work. Yesterday I was driving around town (rather spiritedly) and heard what sounded like a belt squealing under harder acceleration. Unfortunately, I am now here for some help. I have been around and read a lot of great information about my car and I have really learned a lot. So this is my first time posting on the forum.
